Big journey ahead!

Crewe Market Hall

JUNE 2021 has proved to be an exciting time for David Jewkes Art with the launch of a new venture - a gallery/shop within Crewe's new revamped Market Hall. People can now enjoy viewing and buying a piece of original artwork while enjoying a delicious meal.

"It's my ambition to give everybody regardless of their wealth the opportunity to collect original artwork" explained David. This is where there is something in the shop for everybody's wallet.

"If you are in the Market Hall then please feel free to come and say hello to me," said David.

"I am going to be offering one-to-one art classes to members of the public in the shop. Everybody is welcome to try their hand at either drawing or painting".

These classes are aimed at people of all abilities and experience.

So if you would like to try your hand a painting or drawing then please book your space by emailing David @ david-jewkes@sky.com.

Stonewell

If pavement artists could not meet together in Halifax, due to lockdown, then they would do the next best thing - and meet online.

"Yes, there were pavement artists from all around the world competing online, via Zoom" said David. "This was my entry for the Stonewell competition. Stonewell is the name of the Australian outback town where the event organiser lives".

This is the best proof that nothing stops pavement art, not even Covid-19.

Studio @ home

Whilst stuck at home during lockdown I was able to work on building an art studio for myself at the side of my house.

"I am now able to work on my art even when my shop is closed and I can offer lessons from home too," explains David.

Facebook Live

As the pandemic hit and we were all confined to home. David decided to try and do his bit to raise morale by offering free bi-weekly art classes, via Facebook Live.

Don't worry if you missed these popular classes as they can still be found on the David Jewkes Art YouTube channel.

Red Bubble

As the pandemic hit and the country was plunged into Lockdown. David had to find new ways of selling his work so, he started selling his work online via his own Red Bubble shop - davidjewkesart. On this shop you can buy your favourite image as a cushion, a phone case, a face mask or even a shower curtain.

Prescot Painting Day

On a cold Sunday morning in mid-November, in 2019, when nobody had heard of Covid-19 or social distancing. A brave bunch of hardy artists, including David, spent a day in Prescot, Merseyside, painting the local landscape.

Lumen

This was the second year running that David Jewkes was asked to run community workshops, making lanterns for the Lumen parade.

Halifax

As the world's best pavement artists descended on Halifax's prestigious Piece Hall for the Coloured Earth competition.

David was invited to be involved as one of three community artists. He run two community workshops for local children. It gave them the chance to try their hand at pavement art.

The work made at these two workshops were then transformed into a final piece, drawn onto the floor of the Piece Hall, during the weekend of the competition.

Despite the first day of the competition being a complete washout, complete with horizontal rain - nothing could stop David and the local children from producing a large piece of colourful community art with the white rose of Yorkshire at the heart of it.

TrAction

FLIGHT was the theme of Crewe's second TrAction transport festival. So, David was asked to organise community art workshops for local children to build and decorate flying machines to wear in the TrAction street parade on July 6th, 2019.

Chalk it Up

Some of the world's best pavement artists descended on Crewe, Cheshire, one balmy August weekend in 2017.

David, was one of three local artists, chosen to compete in the competition.

This allowed David to create a massive brightly-coloured Carousel on the pavement of Market Square in Crewe.

"This was a fantastic opportunity for me to step outside my comfort zone and try something new," explained David.
